O2 Career: meet Amira, Backend Developer

Amira has been a Back-End Developer at O2 Web for over a year and a half. Discover her career path in joining O2 Web from her remote integration experience up to her exciting arrival in Canada.


1. What made you decide to join O2 Web?

It was a friend who first told me about O2 Web. Living in Tunisia, I was looking to make the leap to an international agency, to evolve in my career. So I sent my application for the position of back-end developer. After several remote interviews, I was accepted!

From the first interview with the O2 Web team, I had the opportunity to discuss some of the major technological projects and main clients with which the company collaborates. This meeting with my future manager and recruitment advisor immediately really put me at ease and gave me insights into my future mandates and fun challenges ahead!

The O2 Web team supported me throughout my recruitment process, right up until I moved to Quebec six months ago, where I was able to benefit from their help with the Canadian immigration procedure.


2. What has your experience been like at O2 Web?

I started working at O2 Web from Tunisia before moving to Montreal a few months ago. The transition was smooth and I was able to take the time to integrate well into the agency while preparing my departure to Canada.

You should know that in Tunisia, the time difference with Montreal is 5-6 hours, so I had to adapt my schedule to work on Quebec time. I was able to find my own rhythm that allowed me to organize myself according to my personal priorities in order to have a good conciliation between my professional and private life.

After three months of probation, I started the immigration process and the preparation of my work permit with the help of the Human Resources team, which was very helpful throughout the process, from the immigration assistance to the arrival in Quebec. 

I am really enjoying this journey with O2 and I have already developed new skills and had the opportunity to work on various large and interesting projects.


3. What do you like most about working at O2 Web?

What I like most is to work in an agency with which I share the same values: “Think as a team”, support the feedback culture, communication…  As a developer, I have all the support I need and I can count on my colleagues to help me out in case of any challenges.

I also feel involved in the life of the company. Every two weeks, a meeting is organized with the President of the agency who will inform us of the current events, new hirings, updates, the good and sometimes less good news in full transparency.

Finally, what I like the most is the great flexibility offered by O2 Web, which pushes us to take responsibility. We have the possibility to choose the way of working that suits our lives, to decide to go to the office or to be telecommuting, but also to be able to work from Tunisia and be with my family, which is an essential advantage as an immigrant.


4. What’s your best memory to date?

Every year, the agency organizes an event to celebrate the end of the year, called “The Retreat”. It’s an opportunity to meet the entire team, from the Quebec City and Montreal offices, and to celebrate the year’s successes together. We have a wonderful time and get to know each other while having fun : one of my best memories to date!


5. How would you describe your colleagues?

Having had the opportunity to work with different teams at O2, I would say that what they all have in common is the strength of teamwork and being constantly available when needed.
